General information

If you have a problem after or before installing the component please read our troubleshooting page. These issues are more likely to occur if you try to upgrade this component while you have an older version of another component of ours still installed on your site.

Release highlights

Upload to remote SFTP server (Professional version). Users of Akeeba Backup Professional can now transfer backup archives to a remote SFTP server (file transfer over SSH). If you have the option between a plain FTP and an SFTP connection to your storage provider we strongly recommend using the SFTP method as it is vastly more secure.

We fixed a bug with CLI backups when your MySQL database server doesn't default to UTF-8 connection encoding. This could lead to loss of data during restoration.

We also fixed a problem with System Restore Points which would lead to enormous backup sizes when upgrading Akeeba Backup. Unfortunately if you are updating to Akeeba Backup 3.8.2 this bug fix won't take effect as the system restore point is taken by your previously version of the component which doesn't have this bug fix. We kindly ask you to disable the System - System Restore Poitns feature before upgrading to this version of Akeeba Backup.

PHP 5.3 or 5.4 is required

This version requires PHP 5.3 or 5.4. The rationale behind this is explained in our statement of mid-February 2013. It won't install on hosts running PHP 5.2 or earlier. Moreover, due to the necessary Joomla! API changes found only in Joomla! 2.5.6 or later, this version will not install on Joomla! 2.5.5 or earlier versions. In any case, it will tell you exactly why it cannot be installed (minimum PHP or Joomla! version not satisfied).

Joomla! 2.5, 3.1 and 3.2 are supported

This version of Akeeba Backup can be installed on Joomla! 2.5.6 or any later 2.5.x release, as well as any 3.1.x release. It is also compatible with the currently in-development Joomla! 3.2 version family. It is not compatible with Joomla! 3.0.
