I am thinking of using Securitycheck Pro to provide SPAM protection for things like contact forms. I see that this overlaps Akeeba Admin Tools in many areas. Do you have any suggestions for better spam protection than Securitycheck Pro

I thought of requiring nominal registration fees for access to forms, but that may limit responses.

I want more than a captcha, I want to use SPAM services to compare email addresses or domain names against lists of know SPAMmers and trash responses if they come from one of the domains on that list or are from email addresses on those lists. Yes I know SPAMmers use throw away email addresses.

Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

What I would do β€” well, what I have done β€” is use a contact form extension which provides integration with Akismet or a similar anti-spam service.

Generic security solutions like Admin Tools or Securitycheck Pro don't really know what is the target (POST) URL for form or which field(s) are what in the POSTed contact form therefore we can't reliably use third party anti-spam services. At best what we would offer is form honeypots, making sure the form was submitted within the same user session that initiated the display of the form and block posted forms depending on known spam words. You already get that with Admin Tools.

Since what you need is most definitely filtering out spam submissions using a spam catching service such as Akismet you need a contact form component which offers this feature.

If you were using Joomla's contact form until now you can use the same contact component we do: Akeeba ContactUs. Our site's Downloads page has a link to download its latest version.

Otherwise check out something like iAkismet, see https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/iakismet/ I have not used that plugin myself but there is only one way to integrate with the Akismet service, making me likely to say that I can't see why this plugin wouldn't work.

PS: I find it really amusing that Securitycheck Pro is using Akeeba Subscriptions and Akeeba Release System to mange subscriptions and deliver downloads to their software :) I guess my software is so good that even competitors use it. LOL!

Nicholas, your last statement made my day, You guess that your software is so good that even your competitors use it. That made me laugh as well.

Amid all my current concerns that has resulted from the lock-downs and evisceration of democracy in the United States and Europe, a little humor goes a long way.

I just watched a discussion between German journalists and Naomi Wolfe, and that seriously alarmed me at what currently lies on the doorstep of all our homes. If you would like a link to that, can you provide me a way to send you a PM with that link included. It was a very powerful presentation by the CEO of a tech company. It is also the reason why Open Source, independent development of platforms like Joomla still matters more than ever.

I will try both Akeeba Contact, since it was developed by you, I know it is good, and I will look at the iAkismet offering and see what advantage, if any, that may provide

Thank you so much for providing this me this targeted heads up. I certainly would not want to forsake Admin Tools for anything else, so thanks for shining a light on the way forward such that Admin Tools remains my main security component.

Life without humour is life not lived. A good laugh now and again is how I keep my sanity. I disagree with the way the lock-downs have been implemented but not with the idea in general. A lockdown should be STRICT for 2-3 weeks to get the virus spread under control. Instead we have this idiotic half-backed excuse of a lock-down where law abiding citizens like me get stuck in the house and are penalised for obeying the law by an even longer lockdown because some hare-brained half-wits think they are smarter/better than us or just too dumb to accept there's a killer virus on the loose.

OK, maybe not dumb, just human; people think that a 2% chance of dying is as good as non-existent. What if we told them this. Every time you get in a bus and the bus gets full one of you will be randomly picked, taken to the curb and executed. This is what a 2% chance of dying means. Those of us playing tabletop RPGs know all too well how real a 2% chance of death is. When we roll the D20 and get a critical 1 during combat we get to roll the D100. Two out of the 100 possible outcomes mean that either us or a fellow party member dies. Several more result in severe setbacks that can derail the campaign. Rolling a critical 1 in a D20 is pretty close to the chance of contracting the virus. The D100 outcomes are pretty close to the real world results of contracting the virus. Having played enough Dungeons and Dragons we understand intuitively that these chances are pretty shit. We mask up and stay home for the same reason we avoid unnecessary battles in D&D: there's no point dying like an idiot.

But I digress.

You're welcome about the the recommendations. I am at war with spam just as much as everyone else :)

Have a great day!
