hello

I am trying to restore in local a site updated to 4.1.5
With a backup done just after update J3 to J4 and check that all is in right place.
The debug log is attached.

But when I want to test that I can use this backup to restore locally at an other place, at first screen of restore I get database support X no
See picture.

As I am fighting against this error for more than 3 days, without success so I bought a ticket.

I also noted that a restoration having this warning (database support no) ends with only a link to front end and no link to back end (as usual).

May be it can help in your search.

I Just found a similar ticket to mine where you answered :

It's cosmetic because clicking Next lets you restore the site.

but see above where I just wrote a restoration having this warning (database support no) ends with only a link to front end and no link to back end (as usual).

So something is not working as usual in this case of warning.

just to help.

Thank you for your excellent product I am using for 17 years.

Keep in mind I am a Mac user myself. The ticket system works just fine on Mac and Firefox. It will not work right if you have Firefox extensions which block stuff they shouldn't be blocking such as NoScript, Privacy Badger etc. I obviously have no control over what you choose to run on your browser. If, however, what you run blocks the code I've written then yeah, your experience will suck big time.

> But when I want to test that I can use this backup to restore locally at an other place, at first screen of restore I get database support X no

Regarding this warning, it's a cosmetic issue. If you click Next and it lets you select a database connector the restoration works. So, yes, it is merely cosmetic.

This page is long overdue for a redo. I think we will be removing it very soon, merely showing a summary of what you are restoring.

> a restoration having this warning (database support no) ends with only a link to front end and no link to back end (as usual).

Do keep in mind that the link you mention appears on the Kickstart page, the script which only extracts the backup archive. It has no idea about the restoration script and what it does, let alone its database support detection status.

Yes, it only shows you a link to the frontend of the site when restoring backups of Joomla 4 sites. The administrator link only appears when restoring backups of Joomla 3.x sites. That's exactly how it is meant to work. The code which displays the link to the backend is only meant to detect Joomla 3 sites. It does so by checking for the existence of the libraries/joomla folder, a folder which no longer exists on Joomla 4 (it's replaced by libraries/src).

Yes, we really did mean to remove the link to the administrator from the final screen of Kickstart. Linking to the administrator page would cause problems if you are using any tricks to disallow direct access to /administrator such as using various plugins (including our Admin Tools) to add a secret URL parameter. People would click that link and get an error, thinking their restoration failed. So my decision was to ultimately not show it for Joomla 4 and after we drop support for Joomla 3 (after August 17th, 2023) to change the text of the remaining button to “Take Me To My Site” or something similar.

I hope this makes more sense now :)

Thank you Nicholas for your answer that provides me all explanations I needed.

I could not guess that hiding backend link was done in J4 for safety reasons

but If I could not guess I fully understand now.

Joomla migration is sometimes hard, moving to J4 was painfull for the first site

and this Database X No in red perturbed me a lot combined with other troubles.

Thanks for your help

You can close the ticket (when you will release new version :-)

Best regards

Version 9.2.6 released today. Taking backups with it won't have a problem with the database support.
