Backups have been running just fine for several weeks. I just now went to my site and get the following error which indicates a crashed backup. I couldn't get in at all. What is going on? I am not too happy that a crashed backup can bring the whole system down.

Fatal error: Class 'AEFactory' not found in /home/content/d/r/o/drone007/html/plugins/system/aklazy/main.php on line 260

I was able to restore the site to yesterday and have disabled the AKLazy plugin.

This doesn't sound like a crashed backup, but as if a file went missing from your site. Normally, you should be able to reinstall Akeeba Backup and re-enable the lazy plugin without further issues. Also make sure that you are using both Akeeba Backup 3.1.rc1 and the copy of plg_aklazy distributed with Akeeba Backup 3.1.rc1.

FYI, if a plugin crashes you don't have to restore the entire site. You can always go to phpMyAdmin, browse the jos_plugins table, find the line referencing the plugin and set "enabled" to 0. This disables the plugin and you can regain control of your site.
