When I loaded the site live and tried to make a backup a red area error appeared, "Detected errors prohibit intended operation" and I could not make a backup.

Shortly after access to Admin section became totally unavailable and gave error 500

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

First, which version of Akeeba Backup are you using? It is imperative to know this information before being able to really help you.

Have you also installed the plg_aklazy plugin? If you did and enabled it before making sure that a backup can be taken from the back-end, you can disable it by renaming the file plugins/system/aklazy/main.php to anything else (main.bak.php will do). This should make the 500 error go away and login to your site's back-end.

Once you are back in your site's back-end, take a look at the detected errors. They are links. Clicking on them will tell you how to work around them. If you can't figure it out, please paste here the detected errors so that I can help you fix them.

Remember: never install and enable the plg_aklazy plugin unless you are absolutely sure that Akeeba Backup can take a backup. Since the plugin runs on every page load, if the backup crashes, your site might also crash with a 500 error.
