Description of my issue:

On 3rd of September 2020 I wanted to renew my Akeeba Subscription for Akeeba Backup pro for Joomla, but obviously I bought a new one (see the enclosed file). I noticed my error today when I logged in in my akeeba-account and was asked to renew the subscription. I got the following message:

Error Validation failure
If you cannot figure out why you can't subscribe please contact us and mention Subscription Assistance Code c4e305fba69508e57684f3b013d9b160_95869_30 in your message. Alternatively,click here to reset the subscription formand start over.   So I have to issues: can you switch my new subscription to a renewal of my old subscription? And can you activate the renewal? I dont know for the moment what is necessary for you to meet my request. I think at least its not necessary to send the akeeba-logfile.

I am a bit confused at what you mean.

I can see that the renewal you bought on September 3rd is activated. You have already received three emails about it. One from our reseller, Paddle, confirming your purchase. A second one from us confirming the subscription activation. A third one from our reseller with your tax receipt 17466620.

You attached me a screenshot of the second email you received. That message is right. Your subscription is active.

When you log into our site we do not ask you to renew. We never did that and we definitely haven't started doing that now. You must be referring to something else. Can you please elaborate what it is that you are seeing (a screenshot would be best) and what is the URL of the page you are seeing it displayed on?

Could it also be the case that you did not log out of our site and then log back in as you were told when you purchased the renewal? Since your subscription had expired before you renewed it the log out and log back in is required.

As for the subscription help code it looks like you were not checking the "I accept the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy" box which is above the Subscribe and Pay button. According to the European Union Directive 2011/83/EU we cannot let you proceed with payment until you do that.  But that's beside the point since you have already renewed your subscription and your renewal is already active since two days ago.

Thanx Nicolas for your answer. So am not able to rebuild the situation where I got definitely this message:

Alternatively, click here to reset the subscription form and start over." (Maybe  I forgot to check the "I accept the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy" box.)

And I got it when I logged into my akeeba-account and was asked to do a renewal. During this a noticed that the renewal would only cost 30$/30€ (I am not sure which currency it has been) whereas the renewal I did on 3rd of September I had to pay 58€ for. So my issue is: is there a difference between renewals you can do in time (as you wrote I missed this for my first pro-version) and the purchase of a new version?

If not, then the ticket can be closed and I will use the version which I bought on 3rd of September. If there is a difference than I paid too much for my renewal. And then there should be a possibility to change.

I am not sure where you got a message to renew because we don't run this kind of messages. I am pretty sure you saw something else and you thought it was a renewal prompt. I honestly have no idea.

Regarding the renewal price. If you renew before your active subscription of the exact same type expires you get a 40% discount. If you renew after your subscription expires you pay full price. 

Your subscription expired July 30th, 2020. You came to renew it September 3rd, more than a month later. Therefore you had to pay 50 Euros base price plus 16% VAT = 58 Euros.

Now that you have an active subscription you can renew it anytime before its expiration (2021-09-03 14:06 EEST) for the reduced price 50 Euros minus 40% discount plus 16% VAT = 30 Euros + 16% VAT = 34,80 Euros.

Our subscriptions are priced in Euros. I don't know where you got the US Dollar price from but it was neither our site nor our reseller.

Regarding your subscription error, yes, you had not checked the ToS box. I can tell you with absolute certainty that this was the problem. The code you send me corresponds to a log entry in our system. The log entry has your input, subscription validation state and the messages you saw on screen.
