Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Akeeba Backup finishes very quickly, returning to the website's Control Panel page.  No backup was made.  Recent history and particulars:

The website is the live website, http://semicore.com

I updated the development website first,https://semicore.mattsson.pro, in the usual order: make one Akeeba Backup before starting, update the extensions including Akeeba Backup, spot check website, make sure BoU is enabled then update Joomla core.  That all went well.

Turning to the live website then, at Joomla 3.9.20, I made the "before starting" Akeeba backup then updated the extensions, including Akeeba Backup to 7.3.0.  Then trying to update Joomla core with BoU enabled, instead of going straight to making the backup, it paused as with a manually initiated backup to allow me to add my own comment.  I did that, pressed the install-the-update button, and I was taken to the Joomla Control Panel page right away.

I tried that one more time, same result.

Then I thought, let's update Joomla core FIRST.  Turned off BoU and updated Joomla successfully to 3.9.21. Tried a manually initiated Akeeba Back after that, filled in my comment, pressed the backup button, and again I was taken to the Joomla Control Panel page right away.  No backup, no log file.

Hmmm, there's no "php_errorlog" file since January 2019.

Web host is SiteGround, generally doesn't have problems.

Hmmm, what can I send you to help you debug?  I've attached the last backup log I have, which is from nearly 24 hours ago (yesterday).

Thanks in advance for your help,

Carol,

In the latest version of Akeeba Backup we have changed several Javascript files, your browser is still using the old ones from its cache instead of downloading the new ones.

Please logout from your site, clear your browser cache, then login again. That should fix your issue.

Hi Dale,

Thanks a bunch for your answer.  Flushing my browser cache -- not just for the last hour, but for all time, did the trick.  For everyone else, I have two observations that may illustrate the effect of various levels and ages of browser cache:

1) After I encountered the Akeeba problem and reported it, I updated a different website to the same version of Akeeba and had no problem.  Same PC, same browser (Chrome on Windows 7).

2) Back to Dale's solution: First try with the "clear browser cache" dialog box, I picked a few cache types to clear that made sense to me.  Cleared it - pretty fast.  Then I tried to make my Akeeba backup, but same problem - right back out to Joomla control panel.  So next try I cleared all the types of cache I could find, and picked "for all time."  That took Chrome about five minutes.  For good measure I also flushed Joomla cache and web host cache.  After that I was able to make my Akeeba backup.  Success!

Thanks again Dale.  That "clear browser cache" link was helpful.

You're welcome!

The problem is stale JavaScript stuck in the cache, it won't work with the update.  Once that's cleared, the new JavaScript in the update loads and everything is fine.
