Reference ticket 34090

I am doing something a little different that what you're doing for your sites, namely using a backups directory in the account root, which is a level up from the main site root. So with SiteGround, our main site is DIR/public_html and a test site subdomain is DIR/public_html/test

I had been using the directory DIR/backups to store backups from the main site and the various test sites, and it was working OK with the main site backup directory as [ROOTPARENT]/backups

Is there anyway to specify this directory as the backup in a way that will work for the test site after a restore? I tried to specify it as a relative path for the main site, but it was changed to  [ROOTPARENT]/backups

If I can't do othis, I can certainly live with the approach you suggested

TIA

Hm, two levels above the root there's no variable. It becomes an absolute path. This does trigger the problem you mentioned in your previous ticket: the absolute path becomes DEFAULT_OUTPUT upon restoration.

I can't really disable the output directory check, it's a far more frequent issue. I could probably set up another variable for the second level parent in the next version. Still, upon restoration you'd need to have a subdirectory with the same name in the second level parent directory.

Another approach which might be easier for you is to exclude the contents of the #__ak_profiles table for the backup profile you use to restore from your development server back to your live server. So even though the output directory is changed on the restored site the change doesn't get reflected on the live site.
