Description of my issue:

BoU-Button disappears after update to 8.0.2

I can update to akeeba backup 8.0.2  (from 7.5.1 or 7.5.2 or 7.5.3)

all seems to work.

However BoU-Button  disappears after update.  (right down in BE)

(backuponupdate remains active)

but the BoU button right down -  next  Joomla-Version and Copyright and website-name disappears.

How can I manage it, to have it there again?

---- https://www.screencast.com/t/TpueudpUO

- It shows me at a glance if BoU is active.

- and I can  easily switch  to have BoU at next update or not.

regards

:) peter

As we said in 7.5.4, we changed the way the Backup on Update plugin works. It no longer displays an icon on every page of your site. It will only display a notice — with a button to toggle Backup on Update — in the Joomla Update page itself.

Thx a lot.

7.5.4 and its information didn't reach me. That update was never offered at my sites.  sorry. Where can I read about it?

Is there a reason why this lovely feature got lost?  We miss it a lot.

We wanna have it back....  Is this possible? we would be very happy.

I tried to downgrade akeeba now.  from 8.0.2 pro --> 7.5.3 pro.

I'm not happy with it.

Firstly.... install of 7.5.3  failed with general error....    Afterwards I couldnt enter BackEnd at all.  FEF30-problem....     FrontEnd remained ok.

I could repair it, by deleting all what had to do with akeeba.  working  with SFTP or SSH...  As described in one of your threads.

I could install akeeba 8.0.2 pro then again.  Had to install it twice :)   as also written in your threads.

This seems all not good.   We cant believe the only reason should be "ugly" joomla.

BackEnd should always be working.    How deep is akeeba nesting in it?  why cant I enter BE?  Why do I get BE-problems, before I get in touch with  akeeba?

Why isnt there a clean uninstall of akeeba - so that one can do a new install without these bunch of problems.

Some questions and ideas that arose in those hours.

we are programming some joomla extentions too.  I have never seen these problems before. not with our extentions, nor with extentions from other persons.

We love akeeba.  It is the best joomla backup-solution ever seen.

But we cant live with these problems.  I get an horror when I have to update akeeba next time.

From now on,  we will stay on old keeba version as long as possible.

I know this is not good.  But what shall we do?    We dont have the time to manage these problems again and again.-  sorry to say this....

But this has grown to be a really big problem.

best regards

:) peter

oh, I could see now - it was written in 7.5.3 release notes for joomla (version 7.5.4 was for wordpress)
----
Rewritten Backup on Update plugin for improved UX. Joomla 4 beta 7 uses Bootstrap 5 instead of 4. This marked the third time since Joomla 4 alpha 2 that the Joomla project made a massive CSS change in the backend template. Each time we had to rewrite the Backup on Update plugin to accomodate it. This got us thinking. What if instead of trying to show the backup on update status on every backend page we only did that where it matters most — the Joomla! Update interface — using system messages? This is what we did. The new code works great across Joomla 3 and 4 and provides a cleaner and clearer experience for the user. That's killing two birds with one stone!
----
yes, it is killing birds.... one of them was a bird we loved very much...

I understand... we have to go back to version 7.5.1 to get  back again "the backup on update status on every backend page"
we love so much. And then never update akeeba backup again. Because we too dont want the update trouble again and again :)
should be a joke -  maybe it is not that easy to laugh about it. I'm so sorry about.... excuse me please.

best regards
:) peter

We do not support downgrading our software. This would require knowing IN THE PAST how a future version would work and anticipate that. Considering that time travel is impossible according the the Third Law of Thermodynamics and telling the future is a fairy tale there is of course no reasonable way we can do that. Therefore we will not provide any assistance whatsoever with downgrade.

Furthermore, once we publish a new version the old one becomes immediately unsupported.

As a result I cannot help you with what you want to do.

If you do not appreciate me spending 40 out of 48 hours trying to fix issues caused by Joomla and PHP during the update instead of telling you that the problems are really not our fault you are welcome to not use our software.
