Description of my issue:

I have tried to update from 7.5.3 to 8.0.1, which broke my page. I tried to manually recover the previous state with external files and DB backup, without success. Now I tried to install the new version 8.0.2 (twice) via direct install, no success.

Installation routine ends with (same for core and pro):

Warning

How can I fix this issue and get the Backup Extension work again?

It sounds like Joomla screwed up the first installation attempt and corrupted the #__extensions table record for Akeeba Backup or one of its extensions. Based on the scant information Joomla provides I think it's the record for the Akeeba Backup component itself.

Use phpMyAdmin to edit your site's #__extensions table, where #__ is the common table name prefix for your site.

Find the record where the element column has the value com_akeeba.

Edit the contents of the manifest_cache and params columns, replacing them with {}

You should now be able to perform the update.

I have to say that this is the first time in 12 years (that is, since Joomla started using JSON data in its database) that I see this happening on a real world site. So far it was a theoretical possibility and I'm only aware of it because I do try all sorts of intentional sabotage on my development sites to see how they break and what I can do to work around or fix those issues.
