Description of my issue:

There is a nice plugin from Akeeba to initiate a backup prior to Joomla Updates - System - Backup on update

We don't normally experience problems with Joomla Updates. However, we do get problems with Joomla after updating 3rd Party components, modules and plugins.

It would be nice if the plugin could be modified to take a backup before updating components which are executed through the standard Joomla update process.

Just a thought??

Hello,

I'm sorry, but that's not possible. We were able to hook on Joomla core updates because it follows a very precise flow path, so we can intercept the request, ask the user to run a backup and then get back to the starting point.

With 3rd party extensions, that's more complicated: they could be made of several parts, each one of them triggering its own installation path. You could be installing from scratch or using Joomla built in updater.

It's way easier to manually run a backup before performing updates, you can create a custom admin module with a fat warning and train your users to trigger a backup before doing something risky. You can create a custom admin menu entry that points to a One Click Backup and tell the users to use it to trigger backups when needed.

Ok, Thanks for the explanation. I should have known there was a good reason why you have not developed that facility.

Kind regards

David
