Hello, I tried to restore my site on Siteground and get a 403 - Forbidden error. Sorry, I can't access the site via FTP at the moment to get the log file.

I read the documentation but it is pretty overwhelming. Is this really that complex to restore a site on the same server that you just backed up and need to restore it? I guess I either don't remember ever doing it or it worked and I never needed to read any of the documentation.

The extraction was completed successfully

The next step is where I run into the issue.

Run the site restoration script

Thank you

Hello,

in order to perform the embedded restoration (the one you can start on the Manage Backups page), you need to have direct access to a specific php file. Sometimes access to files that are not Joomla entry point is blocked. Can you please try to replace your current .htaccess file with Joomla default one? You should have a htaccess.txt file on the root of the website.

Please note that this means you need FTP access to your website.

Regarding documentation, I'd suggest you to take a look at the video tutorials, since they contain all essential information needed to start using Akeeba Backup: https://www.akeeba.com/videos/1212-akeeba-backup.html

Hello, do you know what to add the .htaccess file so I can have this in there beforehand?

I looked up a different site and found this. Is this enough?

Yes, they are correct.

If you are using Admin Tools Htaccess Maker, those files should be already included in the list of exceptions.

Is there another path I need to add? In the installation folder, etc?

Usually those files are enough, since the installation folder is always allowed, however it doesn't hurt to allow access to it, too.
