Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: (1.7.3)
PHP version: (5.2.17)
MySQL version: (5.0.91)
Host: (www.strato.de)
Akeeba Backup version: (3.3.7)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:

Hello,

Since one week my Akeeba Backup isn´t working anymore.

Everytime I try to make a backup I get an

AJAX Loading Error
HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)
Internal status: error
XHR ReadyState: 4
Raw server response:
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Before last week it worked perfect and I´ve already made a few backups.

The only bigger thing I changed was to install Phoca Gallery and some Phoca Gall plugins

The error message appears everytime after(!) saving the database and when it begins to save the website
So it´s possible to save the database alone.

When trying this:
http://www.meiggel.de/joomla/frtc/administrator/index.php?option=com_akeeba&view=browser&format=raw&processfolder=1&folder=[SITEROOT]

I get an internal server error 500

These are the steps I´ve made to solve the problem

- I tried to find a bad plugin but even with all plugins disabled it doesn´t work.

- My output folder is [DEFAULT_OUTPUT]

-I´ve tried the configuration wizard

- I´ve made a re-install of akeeba

Thank You!

Mike

You are running of disk space. Please remove the old backup archive you have in your site's root and try deleting a few old backups, if you have any of them stored on your server.

If you have sent me the correct log file, I can see that there is a .jpa file in your site's root, whose name starts with site-localhost- if that helps.

Could you please attach your new backup log file? I hate having to guess how a proposed solution affected what is going on under the hood - I am a very bad guesser :)

Hi!

Sorry for the delay in my reply. I can see that your backup is failing when you it is trying to backup yet another big file, administrator/backups/backup_2011-11-28_14-39_meiggel.de-sql-nodrop.tar. I would recommend removing it.

Then, go to Components, Akeeba Backup, Configuration, click on the configure button next to the Archive Engine and set the Part Size for Split Archives to 10 Mb. Save your configuration and retry backing up. It should work, albeit your backup file will be split in many archive files (.jpa, .j01, .j02 and so on). This is mandatory due to a limitation imposed by strato.de: it doesn't allow PHP to create files over 10Mb on the server.

Hi Nicholas!

It works!
Great, thanks a lot. With the 10 MB limitation it worked perfectly.

Thank you for your a+ support. :)

You're welcome!

This is a very well known cause. Running the Configuration Wizard would allow Akeeba Backup to automatically adjust itself to this limitation. Our backup troubleshooter page's steps 1 and 7 would have helped as well :)
