EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:
When I backup from the backend I get the following error underneath the main backup progress display:

"Unreadable file /home/sites/mydomain.co.uk/public_html/.nfs00000000039d198e00001ff9. Check permissions"

The backup then completes after 75% so I assume it hasn't completed successfully. I can't find this file and nor can my host.

When I say I can't find the file, I mean .nfs00000000039d198e00001ff9

All files whose name starts with a dot are hidden, that's why you can't see it. Moreover, this looks like a system file which is mistakenly placed in your web root (it needn't and shouldn't be web accessible). Moreover, I would not be worried that it can't be read. This is, in fact, a good thing. This file should not be included in the backup anyway, as including it might render restoration impossible.

Hi, but it's a strange one, not like htaccess which I can see. If I can see htaccess then I should be able to see this too? Where's this file come from? I have two other Joomla sites with the same host which don't have this issue with Akeeba.

At one stage I went into Admin Tools to change its permissions, but I read the troubleshooting and left it. But when I went back later it had gone and yet it still trips up the Abeeba backup.

Will it hurt if I delete it?

Also what abotu the lines in the log file that say:

That file seems to be a system file, so its ownership probably tells the FTP server that it shouldn't even bother listing it. As I said, don't worry too much about it.

The log lines come from a piece of debugging code which I forgot to turn off. Essentially, the log records even suppressed warnings. These are normal and come from necessary checks we have to make to see if a file exists and is readable or writable. These never end up to your browser, but the debug code logged them so that I have a better picture :)

I will publish a new version in a couple of hours which addresses these pesky debug warnings and notices, as well as one more issue regarding the System Restore Points feature.
