Trying to set up my local host so I can update to 3.10, and update my extensions without losing the website. Just updated to xampp 8.0.10 and reinstalled JDK.

Running on Windows 10.

Got this message after I tried to set the superuser password. Sigh.

Thank you!!!

Please use the latest version of Akeeba Backup to take a backup of your site. This is an issue caused by Joomla core code on PHP 8. I have reported this issue and proposed a solution in Joomla's GitHub. Unfortunately, it will only be included in Joomla 4.1 or 4.2. Meanwhile, we created a workaround in ANGIE, our restoration script.

If you cannot take a new backup then downgrade PHP on your local host to PHP 7.4. After the restoration is complete you can upgrade it back to PHP 8.

Thank you! I was worried that it was something I did.
