I just wanted to let you a heads up that should you have people saying they are getting this error -
"Misdirected Request - The client needs a new connection for this request as the requested host name does not match the Server Name Indication (SNI) in use for this connection."
AND
they are on a Namecheap VPS, it is a Namecheap problem.

The did this VPS update, and it did not go well.
https://www.namecheap.com/status-updates/ongoing-temporary-software-issues-on-vps-and-dedicated-servers-july-18-2025/

It basically removed the special login page for Admin Tools in my WordPress installations. When you tried to login, it throws the misdirected request. They had me try the wp-login page and it worked, which it should not have, because I am using a different page set in Admin Tools. Doing other things, like plugin updates, will also cause the Misdirected Request to pop up.

At first I thought it was a new SSL certificate I renewed and installed. No, it was not.

I am hoping they have a real fix for it tomorrow, July 19, 2025.

Are you using Admin Tools' .htaccess Maker feature? If so, are you using the non-www to www redirection?

Hi Nicholas,

No, I am not using the .htacess make feature.

It turns out it was all related to the cPanel problem listed here -
 https://support.cpanel.net/hc/en-us/articles/33553346450455-Websites-show-421-Misdirected-Request-error-while-using-EA-Nginx-or-other-proxies

It was a problem for many hosts. Namecheap seems to have resolved the issue on my server.

OK, that makes perfect sense. I was trying to see if the problem was in the server configuration which, obviously, it was in this case.

Have a wonderful day!
