This plugin enables the v3 JSON API endpoint for Akeeba Backup through Joomla's API application. It must be published for third-party software such as Akeeba Panopticon and Akeeba Remote CLI to connect to your site using Joomla's built-in API authentication. See the JSON API chapter for details.
