July 2009 is the month of major changes in the JoomlaPack.net site. Not only we are working on the next release of JoomlaPack (2.3), but we also upgraded our site to help us better support you.

Here's a rundown of the changes in our sites and infrastructure:

  • We have a new forum, powered by Kunena. The old, phpBB-based forum will soon be put in read-only mode. The bulk of support will be performed in the new forum.
  • Our blog is now self-hosted on JoomlaPack.net and powered by the K2 CCK component by JoomlaWorks. The old blog on Blogger will stay there and serve as an archive of older posts.
  • The documentation index got a fancier, jQuery UI-powered theme. Links to on-line documentation "books" will now take you directly to a proper hierarchical table of contents, instead of the flat list which Joomla! served by deafult. The documentation pages were also improved with enhanced formatting to easier convey information.
  • There are a few minor "treats" here and there, like our new, geeky 404 page.

There were two major reasons for this upgrade. On one hand, we needed a consistent backup of everything we publish and work on. Since JoomlaPack runs only on Joomla!, we could automate our main site's backup, but the forum's backup was a manual process. It goes without saying that our old blog's backup was impossible; we just had to trust Blogger with that... On the other hand, we were concerned of spreading ourselves too thin, having to maintain content on an assortment of different platforms.

We hope that you'll enjoy these changes. If you have any suggestions, we are here to help! Just drop us a line in the forum or post a comment below. We'll be glad to hear your opinion!
