Hi!

In some cases I have to update Akeeba Backup Manually, by extracting the archive and replacing the files inside the plugins folder. For example, this morning the update through WP updates isn't working, so I had to do it manually.

I have noticed that when I do that, the next time I am getting into the Akeeba Backup page, it tells me that Akeeba is not configured yet and I have to go through the auto-configuration steps again for my all 10+ profiles.

So, where is this configuration stored so I can preserve that on manual updates?

Thanks

Akeeba Backup saves its configuration in the database, namely the #__ak_profiles table (where #__ is your site's table name prefix, typically wp_).

The settings are stored encrypted. The encryption key is stored in the file wp-content/plugins/akeebabackupwp/app/Solo/engine/secretkey.php which is NOT part of the Akeeba Backup installation ZIP file. If this file is missing it's created afresh with a new, randomly generated key that is unique to your site.

Apparently, when you are doing a manual update you are accidentally removing this file. Most likely you are using a Mac which, by default, deletes folders before uploading them. Every other Operating System in the world does the far more sane thing of uploading new files and overwriting existing ones but NOT removing any existing files. I recommend using CyberDuck on macOS since it's doing sane uploads, without deleting files.

PS: I will check the topic suggestions. I think it's a JavaScript issue.
