Description of my issue:

Hello,

I noticed that the backup directory for my site has 4GB worth of akeeba.json php files and wanted to know if it's okay to delete the files.  The file location is administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup

I've attached screenshot as well to show the files in the directory.  Thnx

These are the log files from taking a backup through the remote JSON API which is used by third party services like mySites.guru, Watchful.li and BackupMonkey.io or with software such as UNiTE and Akeeba Remote CLI.

You can delete those files; you don't need them. You only need the log files with “All Information and Debug” log level if you need to ask us or the third party backup service provider for support.

You can also make sure that these files are generated basically empty and automatically removed after a while.

Go to Akeeba Backup and select the backup profile you are using with the remotely initiated backup. Then click on Configuration.

In the Basic Configuration pane towards the top of the page find the Log Level option and set it to Errors Only. This will only log errors. The log files are still created but they remain empty unless there is an error which causes the backup to fail.

Scroll down to the Quota management pane and set the Obsolete records to keep to a relatively low value. How much? Well, how many backup records (and their log files) do you want to keep at a time? The default value is 50 which is plenty enough for most use cases. This option DOES NOT delete backup archives stored outside of your site, just the backup records and their log files as long as the backup records say that there are no backup archives stored on your web server.
