EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 10MiB, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

I was running an audit through MySites.GURU for one of my client's sites and it flagged some .SQL files that were pretty old (about 8 years old) in my akeeba folder:

/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/install/mysql/install.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/install/mysql/uninstall.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/install/postgresql/install.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/install/postgresql/uninstall.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/install/sqlsrv/install.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/install/sqlsrv/uninstall.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/updates/mysql/3.6.0-2012-07-31.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/updates/mysql/3.5.0-2012-03-27.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/updates/postgresql/3.8.0-2013-08-14.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/updates/sqlsrv/3.6.0-2012-07-31.sql
/administrator/components/com_akeeba/sql/updates/sqlsrv/3.5.0-2012-03-27.sql

I assume these are old files left behind during updates - they can be safely deleted, correct?

Thank you
Ernie

For Akeeba Backup versions 4 through 8, yes, you can safely delete them. This is what you have so yes you can delete them.

For Akeeba Backup version 3 and Akeeba Backup version 9 and later, no, these files cannot be deleted.

This has to do with the fact that Akeeba Backup versions 4 through 9 were using FOF 3 and 4, our own MVC framework which had its own database schema installed that used XML files instead of SQL files. Akeeba Backup 3 was written originally with Joomla core MVC and later with FOF 1 and 2; all of these used Joomla's schema installer which uses SQL files. Akeeba Backup 9 and later are written again using Joomla's core MVC which uses SQL files. Therefore the SQL files can only be removed from Akeeba Backup versions 4 through 8 inclusive which do not use the .sql files for anything.

I'm running Akeeba Backup Professional 8.1.4 on all my Joomla sites. If I understand you correctly, I can delete all the files I listed - is this correct?

I have FOF 2.4.3, FOFΒ revC1A6D5A-1378494129, and FOF30 3.3.9 installed on the website - can these all be deleted from my Joomla installation (3.10.9)?

I apologize for the confusion - some of my client websites have existed since 2007, and have been upgraded over the years as Joomla progressed from 1.0 through 3.x - a lot of old files have traveled along that path.

When all of the extensions I use are upgraded to support Joomla 4, I will begin upgrading the websites. Until then, I have to wait because my clients depend on some of those Joomla 3.x extensions. I'm using the audits to clean up everything in preparation.

Thank you,
Ernie

Oops - I missed two other FOF files:

file_fof30 - 3.8.1

file_fof40 - 4.1.3

Can these be deleted, too?

Thank you,
Ernie

Yes, you can delete all these .sql files.

The ancient FOF 2 is part of Joomla 3. You cannot uninstall it even if you try.

FOF revC1A6D5A-1378494129 seems to be a leftover from a decade ago. You can remove it.

FOF30 is definitely not required, Akeeba Backup 8.1.4 uses FOF 4.

file_fof30 - 3.8.1 can also be removed for the same reason.

file_fof40 - 4.1.3 CAN NOT be removed, it's used by Akeeba Backup 8. If you tried to remove it you'd get an error and it'd refuse to uninstall.
