hi,

I'm trying to update akeeba backup for Wordpress on 2 sites:
steamgin.be
martindejonghe.be
Both with different themes and hosted by a different provider.
But both with the same problem.
When I click the "update to the newest version" button the download never starts.
No error, only a screen with a Extraction progress of 0 % (see attachment).
Even after 15 min. nothing changes.

When I try to install the manual downloaded plugin I get the error message that the path already exists.

What can I do?
thanks in advance
Cedric

P.S. this is the third time that i try to post this ticket. After clicking "Send your ticket" the page goes blank. Do you have issues with your site?
(third time posted with firefox, first 2 attempts were with safari)

Please install the new version manually: download the new version's ZIP file, extract it and then upload the contents of the extracted akeebabackupwp folder into your site's wp-content/plugins/akeebabackupwp folder.

Why does this happen? The new version includes an update to the restore.php file used to install the update itself. However, this means that during the update the restore.php file is overwritten with the new version. Depending on the speed of your server it's possible that at this point the update is not done and requires one or more further steps. Since the new version of restore.php is incompatible with the old one it will cause the update to report an error. That's why you need to install the new version manually if you do see such an error. Unfortunately we had to provide a new version of restore.php for security reasons, even though that might break the update experience, as we explained in the News section of our site.

I tried to install it manually but that fails too. I get the error message that the path already exists.
If I change the path of the existing installation will my configuration be intact?

You didn't do what I wrote. Do NOT try to install the ZIP file from inside WordPress. It will fail. Unlike Joomla!, WordPress can not update a plugin by uploading the entire ZIP file.

As I wrote above, you need to manually upload the files:
  1. Download the new version's ZIP file from our site
  2. Save the ZIP file somewhere on your computer.
  3. Extract (unzip) the ZIP file on your computer.
  4. You see that a folder named akeebabackupwp was extracted.
  5. Go inside this extracted akeebabackupwp folder.
  6. You see several files. Do not close this window.
  7. Connect to your site by FTP.
  8. Go inside your site's wp-content/plugins/akeebabackupwp folder. Do not close this window.
  9. Upload the files from your computer to your site, dragging the files from your computer's window (step #6) to the FTP window (step #8).
  10. If you are asked about overwriting files, say yes (you want to overwrite existing files)
