Hi,
I am trying to use Watchful.li to allow remote backups of my site, but having issues with this site in particular. I have configured this once before, but maybe it is because of different Akeeba versions when I configured it.

Anyway, I have followed the directions here https://watchful.li/faqs/tools/configuring-remote-backups-for-wordpress

This is my Akeeba - System Configuration - Public API, secret word:###AES128###kFI4qoitce3YfwMozzS+Y4GOolWSURAiKtTGYBEid50KuyIDJy6jOdamA1CPK1e/SlBTVCMsi1FPQHayBTtiXcLl9NlBIkY+IQrbzQ86amIuL61ykssWX/Ak1g/W1KsaqhvNc14BcXDFG4xYdM7fuSGkhdpKUElWJOlZwdHjHm883XZ/EOloYSYAAAA=

In Watchful, the site connects and backups becomes available as an option for the site on their console. However, when I try to do a backup from Watchful.li I get an error "cannot step", see attached image.

In the Watchful instructions it says to avoid using special characters in the secret word. But if I try to change the secret word to not have special characters, then Akeeba resets it to the default special word when it saves the settings.

Do you have any idea what is happening here? A normal backup of the website runs ok when executed from Wordpress.

Thanks, Nicola

As of Akeeba Backup 2.3.3 this field in System Configuration is encrypted. If you hover on top of its label you are told as much. Go back to Akeeba Backup, click on Schedule Automatic Backups and scroll all the way down to "Front-end Backup Feature". Click on the URL tab. The last bit is something like &key=SOMETHING_REALLY_LONG_HERE. That SOMETHING_REALLY_LONG_HERE after the equals sign is your Secret Word.

Alternatively, in the System Configuration page, you can delete the Secret Word. When you go back to Akeeba Backup's control panel you'll be asked to set up a new Secret Word. Press the button to let Akeeba Backup create a new Secret Word for you. You are told what the Secret Word is. Copy that and paste it to Watchful.li.

Thanks Nicholas, an excellent reply, as always.

I don't get any tooltips/messages on hover of any fields/labels on the Public API tab.

Anyway, I followed your instructions, getting the secret word from Scheduled Automatic Backups field, and it works like a charm.

You can close this ticket, thanks.

Thank you for giving me the perspective of the user. I thought of a simple way to make this Secret Word display unencrypted in the System Configuration page, making things easier for you :)

Awesome, thanks. I will use that next time I setup Akeeba Backup on a Wordpress site.
