IMPORTANT! Please remember to ZIP and attach your backup log file. Without it we are unlikely to be able to help you with backup issues. Thank you!

Hi Nicolas!

Here is my problem:

I tried moving this Joomla 3.3.6 site -- which was working just fine -- to the root directory from a subdirectory and as soon as the backup files are unzipped in the root directory - before running the installation wizard - I get a 500 error--can't access the installer, or anything.

I thought it might be something weird with the server so I also downloaded the backup file and uploaded it to a different server (but same Host) and had the same problem.

I don't know what to do to fix this! I hope you can help me.

Please check the .htaccess file in your subdirectory site. Is there a command in there that would change the version of PHP that the site runs under? Kickstart will rename the .htaccess file during the extraction to keep .htaccess from preventing the install script from running, in this case it may have backfired.

I have this in the .htaccess file ..... But I don't understand why it would be ok in one directory and not in another.

## Can be commented out if causes errors, see notes above.
Options +FollowSymLinks

# Use PHP 5.4
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php54 .php

## Mod_rewrite in use.

RewriteEngine On

(and so on and so forth...normal Joomla stuff, I think.)

Wow, commenting out the Addhandler line worked like a charm on the other server....
now to try it for real!

Aargh...I put the files into the root directory on the other server (just dragged them in, this time) after uncommenting that AddHandler line....now when I go to the site, I get an error message saying: Your host needs to use PHP 5.3.10 or higher to run this version of Joomla!

And if I uncomment that line in the htaccess file, I'm back to having the 500 error.

I am thoroughly puzzled! I will try chatting with the host company. If you have any wisdom for the situation, I am all ears, as well!

The AddHandler command may be different from one server to another. That is a command that frequently will not migrate from one host to another or even one server to another. On one server it changes your PHP version, on anther it throws a 500 error.

Chatting with your host is exactly the right next step!

A little chat with the host did the trick--I just got off of the chat and was coming here to update you. Thanks so much for steering me in the right direction.

You guys do a huge service to the Joomla community.
