I am wondering if there is any difference between Admin Tools Pro URL redirection and the one built into Joomla! 1.7? Honestly I have much more faith in Admin Tools and will probably use it in the place of the one built into the core but I am curious and seeing how there was one in the core Admin Tools must have done something that makes it better?

Any advice or direction on this would be a big help right about now.

Both components do pretty much the same thing. They look at the URL, check if it exists in a table and if it does, use Joomla!'s redirection feature. The only advantage to using Admin Tools' URL redirection feature is that it behaves much better when you have a ton of redirections, i.e. over 1,000 redirections. In all other cases, it's pretty much the same.
