Joomla! version: (1.7.2)
PHP version: (5.2.17)

Admin Tools version: (2.1.10)

Description of my issue:
Hi Nicolas
I've just updated my site to Joomla 1.7.2 and added admintools. I have one problem and one question.
The problem - I've installed (Active Helper on the site and I can't get past the following message:
You don't have permission to access /components/com_activehelper_livehelp/server/index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I've added the above path and file into the list of permitted files in adminpro, but without success. Any tips?

The question. Because I've had so many problems trying to make the site multilingual (components which claim to be multilingual but don't function correctly on Joomla 1.7), I've created a subdirectory in which I've added the second language. I've added that directory to admintoolspro and it runs without any problems. What I'd like to do, is add a rule into the .htaccess which enables a redirect depending on the browser language. I've seen that this is possible, but I don't know how or what to add into the htaccess generator of admintoolspro, so that this functions correctly.
As always thanks for your great support.
Regards
David
PS - if you want to see the site, it's here. I'm leaving the error message on the chat function for you to see.

You seem to be lacking a .htaccess file in your site, which is what triggers the error message - or, if you do, you have not set up Joomla! to use the Apache redirections for SEF URLs in your Global Configuration. I do not really understand the setup you are trying to achieve. Do you have two different sites, one for each language? I am also not sure what you want to do in the .htaccess.

I do have an .htaccess file, generated by admintoolspro. I've added it below.

The setup is as you say, two different sites, one for each language, wher the english site lives in a subdirectory under the public_html folder.
The redirect that I mentioned, I found some info on here. But don't know how to apply it in the .htaccess generated by admintoolspro.

If you just want to add custom .htaccess code to the file generated by the .htaccess Maker simply go to Components, Admin Tools, .htaccess Maker, expand the "Custom .htaccess rules" and paste your custom code in the "Custom .htaccess rules at the top of the file" area there. Then, click on Save and Create .htaccess.

OK. Thanks. I'll experiment. I just wasn't sure if it would interfere with some of the other rules generated by the htaccess-generator.

I still havn't been able to solve the problem of letting the live helper work.

I think that you also have to enable the Use Apache Redirect in your sites' Global Configuration pages. Based on what I see, the index.php part of the URL is being removed on redirection, which means that Joomla! doesn't know how to handle the request. Also note that you need to create a .htaccess on BOTH sites. For the second site, which is in a subdirectory, you have to go to .htaccess Maker and reconfigure the System Settings to reflect the new subdirectory (the site is no longer installed in /). Unless you do that crucial step, the site in the subdirectory won't work.

Hi again Nicholas
I have installed it as you said - see image for settings. The index.php in the page addresses only disappears when I activate the apache setting.
In both cases, I still get that 404 message. Did you get the .htaccess file I uploaded? Did I do the setting correctly for access to that file/component?
If you like I'm more than happy to PM you access to the site.

I really appreciate your efforts :-)

The .htaccess file never made it (it's a forbidden file to upload on our server, for obvious reasons). Now, your setup does look correct. I don't understand why you get a 404 error. It's as if Joomla! can't find the component, tries to look for an article, of course fails and throws the 404 error. I think you have to first solve that issue with the extension's developer, then we can get the redirections working.

Hi Nicholas
OK - not what I want to hear but I understand.
I've had a long session with the developer about something that didn't work, which resulted in me creating a correct subdomain for the english site version. So I thought that might solve it. It solve the issue I had with them, but it didn't solve this .htaccess issue.
I'll try again tomorrw.
Thanks a lot for all your efforts.

Well, the error message you receive tells me that you have not resolved the problem with that component. OK, this is a "is it plugged in" question, but have you installed the component on both sites?

The way it works, is that it is installed and managed from one site - in my case the main (German) site. The second site is added on via a module, which is called up from the main site, where you configure both sites.
Does that tell you more? You are welcome to have a look.

Hm, I am not sure that this setup will even work. Each site has its own .htaccess (necessarily!) which tells Apache about a different base directory (RewriteBase). Trying to access the component installed in the main site from the site in the subdirectory is unlikely to work because the module would try to create a URL with the wrong base path.

I'm not sure, as the configuration has to include what is in effect the "live site" address. Which I've included in the config file.

However - I will have to look at this with the developer as a next step.

By the way, I added the extra steps from the site I mentioned to recognise browser language and then nothing worked anymor :-) So I've left that out too.

Thanks again - I'll be back when I've reched the developers.

David
