Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? thoroughly and searching on '403' or 'access denied' etc finds nothing related to the problem.
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? yes, all pages.
Joomla! version: 1.5.20
PHP version: 5.3.3
MySQL version: 5.1.52
Host: 1and1 dedicated cloud server with 5 other domains akeeba works fine on.
Admin Tools version: 2.2.a2

Description of my issue:
Dear Nicholas:
Restored realtorbackoffice.com site with the indicated problem nicely from a similar dedicated 1AND1 server with 2 yrs old middleware, to a fresh server. 5 other domains restored ok. On this domain, it restored and functioned properly. However, when I went to install the newer version akeeba backup and admin tools, it threw a 404 access denied akeeba page error. If I just click on the Joomla "Extension Install / Uninstall" link, it throws the 404 immediately. I was only able to install the uplevel software by renaming pro.php in admin tools. With the new akeeba versions installed, it still does not work when I rename pro.php back to normal, same problem. I am using super admin of course.

When I first tried to install an extension after the site restore, the Akeeba version that was previously installed did not have the restore point function, just fyi -- that is not the cause.

Hoping you might know what this is, Nicholas, if not I can provide the passwords - I hope I am not wasting your time with something stupid, all my WAF firewall settings are set the same on domains, of which the others are working ok.

Thank you
Donn
PS Nicholas, Your products are king my man, you have a tremendous product you developed -- and I want to thank you for your outstanding contribution. I watch my server logs and all severs are being attacked every day mostly from china, trying to log in etc, and your product is very necessary for anyone serious about security and using Joomla for a serious application. Without proper security, people will just wind up with rootet servers that are junk. I would not bother to use Joomla at all without your product. Thank you, Thank you.

NOT AN ADMIN TOOLS ISSUE

You must disable the "System - System Restore Points" and install Akeeba Backup Professional on that site again. IMPORTANT! Do NOT uninstall Akeeba Backup! Doing so will result in all your settings and old backup information being lost, immediately and forever.

Hi Nicholas,
Well I finally go to work on this and noticed u had a new release. I turned off system restore as you said (I had to rename pro.php to prox.php as I would get access denied if I clicked on any of the Install/Uninstall menu items.

Then when I renamed php.pro back to normal, again got access denied, so I renamed it back to prox.php, and installed the very new release of akeeba backup.

then I renamed php.pro correctly, and still got the error if I try to click any of the install/unstall menu items, it came up immediately

so I upgraded to the latest 'stable alpha' and still got the error. So then I uninstalled admin tools completely (I'm not worried about redoing settings, only takes a minutes). Then I installed admin tools level 2.1.14, and voila, all is working back to normal.

So the admin tools alpha versions were causing my problems. I am using 1.5.2x on most of my sites. For some reason, this is the only one that had the issue with the latest admin tools releases. You can close this and good luck getting your code to work on all these friggen joomla release level. It must drive you crazy!

All is good now.
thanks.

If you were using an Administrator (and NOT a Super Administrator) then please note that Admin Tools has a feature which allows you to block access to the extensions installer to anyone except a Super Administrator.

Moreover, this could also happen from a broken Akeeba Backup installation. In this case, as per our release announcement, you simply have to disable the "System - System Restore Points" plugin, reinstall or upgrade Akeeba Backup and re-enable that plugin.

Thanks Nicholas. I was using super admin, that is all I ever use. I would guess it must have been a broken installation, since my other sites have worked flawlessly. Thanks for your time. And like I said, all is good now.
