I set the emergency offline mode to on, now get server error 500 page, deleted the .htaccess file site now loads basic hosting landing page, not joomla front end.

I can find NO htaccess.eom so I don't think it was created.

Site does not load now, I do have access to joomla backend admin panel, tried to rename the default joomla htaccess file but when enabled still get hosting landing page, not joomla front end.

Please help I am really stuck now, was just testing it to see how it worked, so no backup of all todays work!

kind regards,

Tony

Do you have an index.html / index.htm file in your site's root? If you do, delete it. Some servers prioritise it over index.php (Joomla's entry point file).

Also remember that since you have replaced your .htaccess file you may need to go to your hosting control panel and select the PHP version for your site.

If this does not help it sounds unlikely that your problem is related to the Emergency Off-Line Mode. Changing the .htaccess file can't "break" your hosting in a way that the web server cannot find the site's files. Something else is amiss. Your host could help you as they can see in their log files what is going on; you and I do not have access to these log files (they are more detailed than what you have access to).
