Something happened, and I can't save anything in "Admin Tools." I go into the "Quick Setup Wizard," click Save, and the page keeps spinning until I receive a message. I get the same message when I go to "Web Application Firewall" -> "Configure WAF," and after clicking Save, it keeps spinning for a long time too. And after a while, I receive this message:

Request Timeout

This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of this web site to increase 'Connection Timeout'.

What should I do? I uninstalled the component and reinstalled it, but the problem still persists.

Hello,

I suspect that the problem is caused by Joomla mailer system that can't send out the troubleshooting emails. Please get inside Joomla Global Configuration and test the email sending, do you get it?

I also cannot save anything in Global Configuration. I previously deleted the generated .htaccess file which was created by Admin Tools. After this action, I was able to save settings in Global Configuration. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Admin Tools once again. Additionally, I reset the settings while generating the new .htaccess file. I think that helped.

So your original issue can considered closed?

Did you try to send yourself a test email using the "Send test email" button?

Yes, I tried sending through the "Send test email" button. However, the system didn't respond. Similarly, I couldn't modify and save settings in "Global Configuration."

At the moment I deleted the .htaccess generated by Admin Tools, I was finally able to perform the test by clicking "Send test email." There was an issue with sending via SMTP, so I switched to PHPmailer, and the test email went through. Only after I removed the .htaccess file created by Admin Tools did the configuration saving start working. The same applied to other settings โ€“ I could only save WAF configurations after removing the .htaccess file.

To sum up, the .htaccess file was exclusively generated by your tool and wasn't manually modified. Thus, I suspect that there might have been an error there, blocking the saving functionality. If needed, I can recover the .htaccess file from a backup.

Currently, the problem I reported is not occurring.

Admin Tools sends out troubleshooting emails before you perform a change inside the Web Application Firewall or notification emails when you change the Global Configuration. This helps you out if you have any issues or if change is performed on site configuration.

However, if your mailing system is not working, the request will hang until it times out. The real solution is not to disable Admin Tools email notifications, but to fix your mailing system since it will affect other section of your sites (ie users signing up)

I think I understand. I couldn't save the settings because the email was either malfunctioning or not working.

However, why did it start working only after deleting the .htaccess file? Does .htaccess have anything to do with email?

That should be unrelated. You can try to apply the same .htaccess file again and see if you can replicate the issue.

I replaced the .htaccess file with the archive, but I couldn't replicate the issue.

So can we consider it closed?
