I have uninstalled the component but I see the database still have tables with the admintools prefix. What is the appropriate way to clean up the database.
The component was installed when using Joomla 3, but we are now using Joomla 4 and do not need the component.

You need to install the Joomla! 4 version of the component (7.x) before uninstalling it. The Joomla! 3 version does not work correctly on Joomla! 4 since it was, you know, made for Joomla! 3.

That said, just because you have Joomla! 4 does not mean that you no longer need a security extension. Admin Tools can help you improve the security of your site, both for core Joomla! itself, and third party extensions. That's the whole point.

As the most recent example, AcyMailing had a security issue actively exploited between April and September 2023. Actively exploited, unless you had Admin Tools installed and configured with the default settings. The sites which were using Admin Tools' .htaccess Maker could not be hacked.

There have been plenty of instances in the past where Admin Tools stopped malicious file uploads, SQL injections, session poisoning, etc before the security issue was identified and fixed in Joomla itself, or a third party extension. If that was not the case, security software like Admin Tools would have no reason of existence.
