After changing my site's database password, the Akeeba Password-Protect Administrator is refusing to accept the password PWD-protect PWDI have on record.

I also get the same response when I try to login in Rescue Mode.

I am able to login to my cPanel and view the files with file manager but unable to follow the instructions to use FTP to regain control because there is no  plugins/system/admintools/admintools folder on my site.  Nor is there a "main.php" file in any location under plugins/system/admintools/

I have tried relocating the .htaccess.admintools file to my downloads folder but that does not help.

You are looking at the wrong instructions. The instructions changed since the first release Admin Tools 7 in 2021 since we're now using Joomla's new extensions API which was introduced in Joomla! 4.0. You can find the new instructions in the documentation.
