Ticket #42608

23.5. Locked out of my site after applying a .htaccess using Admin Tools' .htaccess Maker

The first method changing the htaccess file to htaccess.bak did not do anything at all still blank.

23.6. Admin Tools' Web Application Firewall (WAF) locked you out of your site

The second method you sent me did produce the message on the white screen but I did not receive the email to copy and continue.

I did go into PHPmyadmin and make sure this is my admin user email.

https://www.bensonscampground.com/administrator/[email protected]

I did see this :

"Check your email for Rescue URL information" printed on the white screen.

On 23.6 there's an alternative for renaming services/provider.php. You should use that. The Rescue Mode email will only work if your IP address is temporarily blocked. If it's a different issue, e.g. the secret URL parameter, it may not do anything. Renaming the provider.php file always works, as it prevents Joomla from loading the Admin Tools system plugin at all.

I recommend bookmarking these pages. Short URLs to them are emailed to you every time you change the configuration of Admin Tools or any component, but having the bookmarks means you can quickly look up these documentation pages even when you're blocked at any other time.

I looked in the files under bensonscampground directory on my host there are like 147 provider.php paths or files BUT there was not any services/provider.php

Can you advise what else to look for?

You didn't read that page, did you? :) Under "Using FTP to regain access to your site's administrator" it tells you this:

Go inside the plugins/system/admintools/services directory. You will see a file named provider.php. Rename it to provider-disable.php. This will turn disable the Web Application Firewall from executing and you can access your site's back-end again.

Please do read the rest of that page.

I got in with that method.

Yes I did read about the provider file but when I saw the part about being unprotected until I find the issue it scared me off.

I have not worked on this site since last spring (it is a very seasonal site) so it may take a while to find the issue.

Do you recommend I change it provider file name back and lock myself out unless I am working finding the issue?

It does need some updates which I will do today, and it still has SPpagebuilder in it which I do not use anymore since

I found a much better extension so I need to convert the pages and uninstall that also.

Any method you choose to unblock yourself hinges on the premise that you do want to be unprotected very briefly just so you can get into the site and work on rectifying the reason you got blocked in the first place.

The documentation page I linked you to does tell you what to do to find out why you are blocked and how to address that. Give it two read-throughs so you are aware of what you need to do, then just follow it after logging into your site. It will take you a minute or two.
