Joomla has gotten confused about whether and which version of Admin Tools is currently installed on your site. This typically happens when a site is restored — Joomla's internal extension recordkeeping in the #__schemas table is out of sync with the actual database tables.

Here is what to do:

Step 1 — Export Admin Tools' configuration (if it is currently accessible)

If you can access Admin Tools at all, export its configuration first so you can restore your settings afterwards.

Step 2 — Uninstall the Admin Tools package

  1. Go to System → Manage → Extensions.
  2. Expand the Filter Options panel.
  3. Under "— Select Type —" choose Package.
  4. In the search box type Admin Tools package (exactly as shown) and click the magnifier icon.
  5. Select the result whose Type is listed as Package — this check is important.
  6. Click Actions → Uninstall. It is normal to see error messages printed; ignore them and proceed.

Step 3 — Install Admin Tools twice

Download the latest Admin Tools Professional package from your Downloads page and install it twice in a row, without uninstalling it in between.

Step 4 — Restore your configuration

If you exported your configuration in Step 1, you can now import it back.

The Admin Tools package entry is missing from your extensions database — likely lost during the crash/restore. The component itself may still be partially registered. Here is how to proceed:

Step 1 — Uninstall the Admin Tools component

  1. Go to System → Manage → Extensions.
  2. In the filter bar, under "— Select Type —" choose Component.
  3. Search for Admin Tools and click the magnifier icon.
  4. Select Admin Tools (Type: Component) and click Actions → Uninstall. Ignore any errors.

Step 2 — Uninstall any remaining Admin Tools plugins

  1. Change the Type filter to Plugin.
  2. Search for admintools.
  3. Select all results and click Actions → Uninstall.

Step 3 — Install Admin Tools twice

Download the latest Admin Tools Professional package from your Downloads page and install it twice in a row, without uninstalling it in between.

If Step 1 fails with an error and Admin Tools still cannot be installed afterwards, please let us know and we will guide you through a manual database cleanup instead.
