Thank for such a great tool in Admin Tools for Joomla. I have a question on email notifications I am getting; I have it set up currently to receive email notices on "Blocked request ... " for "security exception was detected on your site" but I get maybe 25-30 a day, which shows how well the component is working. I was wondering if I could just that ""Blocked request" email off, and instead only get emails when "Automatic IP blocking notification" occur, which is not often. I have searched and can't seem to distinguish setting the email notifications for those specific notices to reduce my emails. I know it is great to see how often these occur, but the number of them somtimes overwhelms my inbox. If there is a way to get a notification only when "Automatic IP blocking notification" occur, that would be great.

Thank you again for a great component.

Yes, of course you can – and that's what I actually recommend in the product's documentation.

  • Go to Admin Tools, Web Application Firewall, Configure WAF, and click on Logging & Reporting.
  • Find the “Email this address on blocked request” option and remove its content.
  • Click on Save & Close.

A couple more things to know.

The setting for the automatic IP blocking notification emails is “Email this address if an IP is auto banned” in the adjacent Auto-ban tab on the same page.

In the Logging & Reporting tab there's the “Email this address on increased blocked requests” option which may be a good alternative to use in place of “Email this address on blocked request”. It will only notify you when the number of blocked requests over a period of time has suddenly increased. This is meant to act as the canary in the coal mine, an early warning about your site getting pounded by a probe or an attack. It's also only sent approximately once per the period you choose – the “approximately” part is explained in the documentation. Having this set to a hundred backed requests over an hour sounds like a good starting point for your site, given the fact that your baseline is about half as much over an entire day.
