Hi Nicholas.

I have a few thing i would like to see in Admin Tools Pro

1. In the Firewall whitelist and Blacklist, it would be nice to have a comment field next to the IP field, so one can put remarks there about the IP's entered. For instance whom belongs the IP or IP range to so one don't have to search a user by IP but search for a user name.

2. If an IP is not in the whitelist the user get redirected to the frontpage. In the "Security Exceptions Log" in the column "Reason" for the whitelist it says "Admin IP Whitelist" which is kind of vague and should be something like "Admin IP not in Whitelist"

3. things mentioned in 2 could be the same for the Blacklist, i haven't used it yet but it could have the similar vagueness.

Regards, Z. ;)

1 & 3 granted and will appear in the RC1 release I'm going to put online today.

2, no. The column doesn't have enough space to accommodate long text. Do remember that what is 30 characters in English can be about 70 characters in Greek or Spanish. Besides, since you are viewing a security exceptions log it can't mean that the IP was allowed. Right?

Then i have one mere question.

Can you make Admin Toos Pro create a logfile saving IP address, date and username of a newly registred user on the frontend? I just want to find out who is that spammer (if i got one) and where he comes from. I know that most of these guys are behind a proxy but it would be a nice feature. JoomlaWatch does this trick but it shifts IP addresses in the backend statistics FILO (First In Last Out) log, and when i am at work i cant see a particular IP when i am back from work and have to block the spammer in the userlist.

Hm... There is no such feature right now and it's out of the scope of this tool. I'll give you one advice about spammers, though. Most of them run their operations from zombinets, i.e. networks of malware-infested PCs. Blocking an IP range is never a solution to spam. You should better use something like Bad Behaviour or a CAPTCHA system in user registration to prevent spammers from joining your site.

To bad,

I use ReCapcha which is very strong but some spammers get trough and register by hand circumventing the capcha protection. I block them in the user list so they can't login and they vanish after a day or two from the list automatically. I have been looking for quit some time now to get an extension that logs IP's from new registrars but it's very hard to find.

The reason i asked for such an option is that it is forbidden by law here in the Netherlands to send spam. And this way it makes it a little easier to collect information about spammers and send it to the proper authorities. I know that in a lot of countries it is not allowed to collect IP addresses, but here it is no problem.

Anyway I'll keep looking for an extension that does exactly that. By the way i have started to translate Admin Tools in to Dutch, maybe some other users are interested in the translation. I'll upload it in the translation part of this forum when finished.

grtz, Z. ;)

Hi Nicholas.

I have some feature requests for Admin Tools Pro (again) hope it's not to annoying lol :)
1. It would be nice to have an import/export option in the "Bad Word List" (Anti-Spam) so one can import to and from a .txt, .CVS or .xls file, which ever is the easiest. A few different file formats would be nice but .txt would be just fine.

2. A "Bad Word List" sorting (alphabetical sequence) option, this makes it easier to avoid double words. This one brings me to a question though, are the words in the list upper/lower case sensitive? If so it would be better to not make them upper/lower case sensitive so bad words are always captured.

3. In the Whitelist/Blacklist it would be nice to have a toggle option like publish/unpublish for every instance. This makes it easy to block/unblock list-items without removing the entire instance in the list. This makes it easy to give someone a second chance but makes it easy to block the person again if necessary because his IP and the comment (lets say username) is still in the list.

Even so if granted someone access to the backend as a super Administrator as we did last time, such option would be fine because your instance will stay in the whitelist but unpublished giving no access to the backend but when needed it's just a matter of publishing your instance without remembering your IP (your name is in the comments field).

So far this time, let me know what you think of it.

In most countries it is against the law to collect personal information (like an IP bound to a username which carries some personal information), therefore including such an option would put us in potential legal trouble. As a result, you'll never see that option :)

Regarding import/export, this is planned for version 1.1.

Alphabetical listing of words is possible right now. Just click on the "Word" header and it will sort by that header. It's standard Joomla! behaviour. All words are case insensitive. It doesn't matter if you write Abc, ABC, aBc or abc -- it's the same thing.

The published/unpublished state of the IP lists was killing the performance (it has to be loaded on each and every page load). This feature is not going to be implemented. Instead of that, you can do a little trick; append /0 after the IP address, i.e. instead of 123.123.123.123 make it 123.123.123.123/0 and the filter becomes inactive. This is only valid for single IPs. If you are using an IP block, e.g. 1.1.1.1-2.2.2.2 you can't use this trick.

I was wondering if there is a plan to create a 'remote' control panel for the Admin Tools Pro that would allow one to administer multiple sites from one Admin Tools Pro control panel? In otherwords I could upgrade and administer other Joomla! web site installations (with a plugin installed) from a single site?

Thanks,
Steve B.

As explained, upgrading sites is tricky and is something I have to look at. Regarding administration, the things which should be ran periodically can be scheduled using the "System - Admin Tools" plugin of the Professional release, so I don't see the point of duplicating the effort.
