As suggested in the AdminTools manual I set all of the htaccess items to No so I could turn items on one by one. However, as soon as htaccess was saved I got 403 Forbidden on both front and back-end.

Does this suggest my server doesn't support or allow use of htaccess?

Thanks
Jon

Jon,

Nicholas will have to look at this one too. The .htaccess file is still black magic to me. :)

Are you using the 3.1.RC1 release? The alpha and beta releases were adding the [R=404] flag to some of the rules, which is incompatible with Apache 2.0 and earlier (most hosts use the newer Apache 2.2). Admin Tools 3.1.RC1 included a modification in the .htaccess code generator to remove those flags and replace them with the standard flags which are compatible with Apache 1.3 and later.

That said, if your server doesn't have support for mod_rewrite, applying the .htaccess file —even with everything turned off— will cause an immediate Internal Server Error 500 or blank page.
