I have a Flash Rotator module that does not work if I enable the front end security option on the .htaccess maker. Can you help me configure it so that I have both increased security and the working module?

Nicholas will have to look at this one, I'll flag it for his attention.

Sure thing! Just PM me the URL to the page where the rotator appears and I'll tell you what additions you have to make to your .htaccess Maker configuration.

The URL of the test site is http://173.236.25.210/~fusworg/

The flash rotator is at the top under the menus.

Thanks!

All you have to do is go to your site's back-end, Extensions, Admin Tools and click on the .htaccess Maker button. Expand the "Server Protection" pane and find the "Exceptions" group box. In there, there is the "Allow direct access, except .php files, to these directories" area. Append the following in a new line:
modules/mod_flashrotator/js_flashrotator/img

Then click on "Save and create .htaccess". This should do the trick. Do note that if you are on GoDaddy hosting the changes will take 15 to 30 minutes to take any effect, on all other hosts you should be able to see the rotator as soon as you refresh the page.

That makes perfect sense, but for some reason it didn't work. Any other ideas?

I get this funky behaviour here... Chrome displays it fine, Firefox doesn't. Chrome loads all images, Firefox reports 403 (Forbidden) errors. Have you touched anything in the other parts of the .htaccess Maker, for example the disallowed user agents?

I hadn't tried it on different browsers, it just didn't work in Safari. If I turn off the Front-End Protection it works. I have thought of asking Joomlashack what other folders are utilized front end to enable the module to work...

Did you try disabling the .htaccess Maker option for blocking some user agents, just in case?

I have the "Block access from specific user agents" set to No. Is that what you mean?

Yes, that's what I meant. Maybe you have to also add the module's directory to the list of directories where direct access is allowed to all files except .php ones to make it work. Have you tried the documentation instructions for figuring out which exceptions are required?

Hi timbreese,

I use this component with admin tools and I've found that you need to only add this file:

modules/mod_novasfh/engine/sfh_48.xml

to the 'Allow direct access to these files'

Not sure if this will help.

Cheers,
Dave

Right answer, wrong file- the exception I needed to make was for:

modules/mod_flashrotator/js_flashrotator/js_flashrotator45.xml

Thanks for your help! :D
