Hi Nicholas

This component reads PDF files in a directory images/pressearchiv/PDF

The result I'm getting is that in all Browsers, when I don't add anthing to the .htaccess, the component works, but demands the "extra administrator page" Login details.

If I add "components/com_pressearchiv/pressearchiv.php" it works as it should in Firefox, but in other browsers it still demands a password and username.

You can see it working here

I'm stuck. If you have any ideas, I'd be grateful.

The component's author has done a fatal sin. He is trying to access files in the administrator are of your website from the component's public (front-end) part. Unfortunately, the only way to make it work is to disable the Administrator Password Protection. After you do that, complain to the author of that extension that the way he has coded the component is insecure and ask him to fix that.

Thanks for the prompt answer - not what my client wants to hear, but that's the explanation the will get. I will get in touch with the author.

Again, thanks for the excellent support.

You're welcome! I wish there was a better solution, but unfortunately some developers don't follow all the best practices :(
