I have installed Akeeba Backup for Joomla 4 on a couple of J4 development sites.

Prior to updating the sites to J4.0.2 I have clicked the Akeeba 'Backup Now' option.

After backing up, it says:

"Congratulations! The backup process has completed successfully.
You can now navigate to another page."

However, the only navigable option is the 'Manage Backups' button as, unlike in J3.10 the J4 main menu is hidden. Is there a reason for this? I don't need to manage my backups after creating a new one and would rather go back straight back to the Joomla Dashboard.

Thanks.

The main menu has always been supposed to be disabled when a backup is in progress. This is how it's been working since JoomlaPack 1.1 for Joomla 1.0, released all the way back in 2006. If this isn't happening in Joomla 3 with Akeeba Backup 8 then it's a bug we need to fix.

The reason for disabling the menu is simple: if you accidentally click on a menu item you'll navigate away from the page which will cause the backup to fail. We're trying to prevent that.

Please note that disabling the menu is an all or nothing affair in Joomla. It either remains disabled or it's not disable at all. We can't re-enable it at the end of the backup.

Hi, I understand it being hidden during backup - it's after the backup has finished and the message says "Congratulations! The backup process has completed successfully.
You can now navigate to another page."

In J3 when the backup finishes, a [Control Panel] button appears near the top as well as the [Manage Backups]:

In Akeeba for J4, there is no [Control Panel] button after a one-step backup, only the [Manage Backups] button. See attached images.

Good catch! I think I forgot to port that button. Thank you for the heads up :)
