Description of my issue:   Question regarding MySQL (+php) versions.

If a Joomla 3.x site is transferred - using AkeebaBackup ;-)

—  FROM a server running mySQL 5.6 (+ php 7.3)
—  TO a server running mySQL 8 (+ php 8)....

Can it then be transferred (Using Akeeba) BACK to the mySQL 5.6 (+ php 7.3) server?

Perhaps another way to phrase the question: is the Joomla data INDEPENDENT of the mySQL version?

Or will the mySQL 8 change the characterset/etc. and cause problems once it's in the

Hello,

as long as none of the extensions is using any feature that is available under MySQL 8 only, you can move them back and forth.

Since Joomla minimum requirement for MySQL is 5.6, the core and almost the totality of software developers are using features that are available in that version.

Thanks so MUCH, Davide!   Brilliant!  So, for example, do you think i'm correct to assume that YooTheme Pro would transfer without a problem?

BTW:  i posted this question on the Joomla Forum - is it ok to quote your answer for anybody else that's following the forum thread?

Yes, in theory there shouldn't be any issues. My suggestion is always to run a test, that's the only way to be 100% sure.

Sure, quote me, no problems on that.

Agreed... testing is the way to go.  (will do so once Time allows;-).  Thanks again for your input!
