I could not find better category for this question. Sorry if I should have picked another one.

Our site has been around for a very long time, from Joomla 1.5 actually, with solid support and backup using Akeeba.

As I'm preparing for upgrades to Joomla 4 and PHP 8 I'd like to clean away as many things I can. I find that there are a number of plugins originating from Akeeba Ltd. I am suspecting some of them are no longer necessary, but I get a bit confused and am not clear about which ones to keep and which ones can safely be removed.

This came up since a test upgrading PHP to 8.1 generated a fatal error in "f0f" (with a zero) which looks really old. But still says "Do not remove".

These are the extensions that I'm seeing:

  • F0F rev AA17947 2016-05-12
  • FOF 2.4.3 2015-04-22 (protected)
  • FOF 2.2.1 2014-03-09
  • FOF30 3.3.8 2018-11-26
  • file_fof30 3.7.4 2021-02-19
  • file_fof40 4.1.1 2022-01-05

Could you please clarify?

Yes, I have already written an explainer in August: Joomla 4 is around the corner - Akeeba Ltd

Please read the entirety of the page, it has some very useful information.

As for what to do, it's under “Before upgrading an existing site to Joomla 4” towards the end of the page.
