I'm unable to update Akeeba Backup Pro and Admin Tools Pro from the Joomla! administration. The update does work when we attempt through the Watchful.li dashboard either.

Thought it might have been hosting related, but when we switched from siteground to LiquidWeb the issue persisted.

We utilize the Sucurri firewall, but other sites we have there do not have an issue.

Thought it might be htaccess related, but switched out for Admin Tools Pro htaccess for the basic htaccess that ships with Joomla! and no change. (Restored secure htaccess file)

Tried deactivating Admin Tools Pro, but no change. (Reactivated now)

Happens with several other extensions, but not all. Regular labs and JCE are among those that don't work. JoomlaTools DocMan updates without issue and JSitemap PRO does also.

I can update, but I have to log into each developers site, download each extension and upload each manually via the Upload & Install Joomla Extension page (upload package file).

Please advise.

Sucuri has nothing to do with it, nor does .htaccess, nor Admin Tools. All of these handle requests from the Internet TO your web server software (not even to your server as a whole).

Updates are about making requests to the Internet FROM your server (regardless of whether it's a script running through your web server software or the command line), namely to each software vendor's update and download servers. These are blocked by the operating system level firewall and/or transparent proxying set up on your site's server.

As a result you need to contact your host. They seem to be blocking some of the requests to third party servers in their operating system level firewall and/or transparent proxy. This is something that only your host can help with. There is nothing we can do for you.

I appreciate the info. I will go back to host with a more informed tech support request.

Turns out it was something else.

Was all caused by the Innato Updater Utility.
That plugin messes with the download URLs passed to the Joomla core installer.

Disable that, and all is well.
