EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 10MiB, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

The output directory cannot be misidentified as being outside the web root of your site. Joomla tells us what the web root of your site is.

Please note that this does not cover symlinks. For example, you may have a site whose web root is /home/myuser/public_html and have a symlink /home/myuser/www pointing to the web root. If you give your backup output directory as /home/myuser/www/something instead of /home/myuser/public_html/something it will be considered outside the web root since we do not try to resolve symlinks. This is intentional. On some servers the symlink structure is such that writing to the the symlinked directories works BUT trying to resolve them via PHP will result in PHP telling us that the folder does not exist. It is a limitation of PHP itself.
