I have decided to change hosting company and to minimise potential downtime my intention is to use Backup and Kickstart to set up my new site before changing the DNS.

As my new site does not yet have a URL my new supplier has suggested I use https://www.skipdns.link/

I wondered if you were familiar with this setup.  In practice I have been able to ftp kickstart.php (I rename it before running) and the backup file to the new server, and run kickstart to the first screen.  However when I move to the next screen I get an error message telling me there has been an unknown problem.

I suspect it is something to do with using skipdns but wondered if you had any ideas.

Hello,

can I have a copy of the error? To be honest, since it's just you doing some maintenance and preparing the new server, it's way easier to edit your hosts file to make it point to the correct server, then proceed to the transfer.

Thanks Davide,

In the end my hosting company took over and sorted all the DNS tweeks.  I never did work out what was wrong originally, but it works now.
