EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 10MiB, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Hi,

I am trying to recover a website using the kickstart and the backup files. My host is IONOS.

When I start the extraction I get an error with 'Could not open /homepages/41/d347682306/htdocs/logs/.htaccess for writing.'
The .htaccess is set to 644 and cannot be changed (based on what IONOS's customer help says)

Please help.

Your problem is that your site has a folder called logs which your host uses to keep a web-accessible version of your site's access logs (usually managed through AWStats or something similar). This folder is readable but not writeable which means that you can back it up but not restore it.

In Kickstart, there's an option box titled “Ignore most errors”. Check it before clicking its Start button. It should now skip over the contents of the logs folder.

Once you restore your site you should exclude your site's logs folder from the backup. Do remember that Joomla uses administrator/logs for its own log files since several years ago, I think Joomla 3.5 or 3.6.
