I'm familiar with JoomlaPack, loved it's simplicity. I just purchased Akeeba Pro to take advantage of Cron based backups. And so far I cannot for the life of me figure out why everything has become so different.

1. Where is the Frontend URL that is described in the documentation? It's mentioned a billion times there - but nothing is shown in the backend parameters that shows this URL. Am I supposed to guess? Use the one in the examples?
2. I found the "parameters" dialogue hiding in the upper right corner of the control panel page. It shows a "enable front end backup" parameter. I selected it. Now what?!?
3. I see the "secret word" field there too. Where is that? Do I make it up?
4. I use SiteGround as one host. Has anyone out there confirmed that CRON jobs can use full URLs in the command line?
5. I used to create a "cron.php" script in the backend of JoomlaPack. Is that not necessary anymore?

All of this is very odd. Up until I decided to spend any money on this, this solution has been very easy to use. Now that I've finally shelled out a few bucks - things have changed. I really suggest cleaning up that documentation because it's very messy, uninformative and maddening even!

Jeff,

It is different because the CRON job at least is a complete rewrite of what was available in 2.4.1. The new code is faster and avoids some server level problems that the 2.4.1 code had. Both of these are "under the hood" changes that are not very visible.[ol][li]Are you using the 3.0 Akeeba documentation? JoomlaPack gave the front end backup url on the configuration page, Akeeba does not. I couldn't find any reference to the front end url on the configuration page in the online documentation page[/li][li]Great! That is one of the prerequisites for using the front end backup.[/li][li]Yes, you make it up. This is used as a "password" to prevent a malicious user from doing a DoS attack on your site by running multiple backups. You will notice in the front end url on the documentation page that the secret word is also used in the url.[/li][li]There is a special section of the front end documentation for SiteGround. It needs some cleanup. The warning is perfectly clear if you know what he's talking about, but it is just so much gibberish if you don't. You need to use the curl command with the url from earlier in the page.[/li][li]You don't create the cron.php any more. The CRON backup is different. The documentation for that is the next page[/li][/ol].
