Hello:

My Joomla site needs to be upgraded and my webmaster directed me to this website. I paid forty dollars for a subscription and need help upgrading my website. I have no idea where to go from here. How do I go about this? This is all so strange to me.

Thanks in advance.

Hello! Thank you for subscribing.

I need some more information to better help you. What do you mean "upgrade" your website? Upgrade the Joomla! version? This software is designed to take backups of your site, not upgrade it. I think that you need to do the following:
1. Set up Akeeba Backup to take a backup of your website, in case the upgrade goes awry. You can take a look at our documentation and our video tutorials for more information.
2. Once you have a working backup, you can upgrade Joomla!. The Joomla! project - which we are not affiliated with, as stated in the site's footer - offers excellent and in-delpth documentation of the whole process.

I hope this helps you. If you have further questions, do not hesitate to post back. Even if it's not directly related to Akeeba Backup we'll try to help you out. Our motto is "we're here to help" :)
