I have add the below cron command in my cpanel, but I don't know if this works or not as well as if the backup got any errors.

nice /usr/bin/php -f /home/mysite/public_html/administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup.php

If I do not see any backup created in "admin backup files", it means the cron auto backup failed, right?

dlb
That is correct, the status of the backup would show in the Administer Backups screen. If there isn't a backup record there, then it isn't even starting.

I don't know the "nice" command. Are you sure that will start the job? Also, the php version that you call there has to be the command line version of php, not the web version. The command is frequently php-cli, or something similar.

here is what I see in backend:
http://screencast.com/t/ZWNhYTkw

so the cron job has been run, but backup not started?

dlb
The backup has a status of "pending" so it is somewhere in the process. Are you getting any backup log at all? If you are getting any log, please zip and post it.

Does the backup work when you start it from the back end?
