After migrating my site, Akeeba's "backup now" feature stopped working. I then uninstalled Akeeba (component, module and media files) and reinstralled Akeeba, but the problem remains. The Akeeba cpanel states that it is ready for backup and I have checked configurations and everything else I can think of, but it just won't start.

Is there anyone with a similar experience that can suggest a remedy? Your help is much appreciated!

In this particular case, exactly where it stops working is important. Different things would cause problems on the Control Panel screen, the backup description screen, or if it goes past the backup description and goes to a backup page. Can you give me some more information on exactly where the error occurs?
