in the dropdown i only see 'send by email'. i do not see the dropbox possibility. my version is 3.1.b1

I think you accidentally installed Akeeba Backup Core. Please go back to the downloads page, after having logged in to our site. The first item in the 3.1.b1 release is Akeeba Backup Core. Below it you will find Akeeba Backup Professional. Download it and install it over the existing installation. This will do the trick.
